Introduction to ASD

In this 5-day (30–hour) introductory course, we cover current research in ASD and evidence-based teaching strategies. Our instructors use research-based methods of effective adult instruction, including practical hands-on activities, demonstration, coaching, and application exercises as well as a variety of ways of evaluating participant learning. This course is suitable for teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff.

Supporting students with ASD in your classroom

This 12-week online course is offered in a flexible format to meet the needs of working teachers. The course consists of a combination of interactive on-demand sessions (completed within a participant’s own schedule) and live online sessions (at scheduled times in a virtual classroom facilitated by an instructor). Assignments include readings, brief written and hands-on activities, as well as a capstone project of each participant’s choice, applied to their own school setting. Minimal technical requirements include: a laptop or desktop computer (equipped with microphone and camera), and access to high speed internet.

Introduction to Applied Behaviour Analysis

In this 5-day (30–hour) course, we cover current research and evidence-based ABA techniques in educational settings. We begin with a brief review of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our instructors use research-based methods of effective adult instruction, including practical hands-on activities, demonstration, coaching, and application exercises as well as a variety of ways of evaluating participant learning. This course is offered to teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff. Minimal technical requirements include: a laptop or desktop computer (equipped with microphone and camera), and access to high speed internet.

Virtual Flexible ASD Course

The ASD virtual FLEXible course covers the same content as the in-person 5-day ASD course but is offered over a 7-week period for maximum flexibility. Participants are given ample time to learn and work with the concepts through a combination of pre-recorded modules and weekly 2.5-hour Live Zoom sessions. This course is suitable for teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff.

Severe and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities Course

This 40-hour course is designed specifically for resource teachers and classroom teachers who work with students (k-12) with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. It will prepare participants to plan and implement meaningful and effective programmes for these students. Participants will become familiar with the foundational principles and current research that guide this work. Participants will learn a range of assessment and instructional strategies and have opportunities to apply these to case studies and, if possible, to students in their own classes/caseloads.
